Greek Railways, 10th-16th April 2013
After being at home for a whole week after the last Balkan bash, it was time to return to the Balkans for another week - Greece this time. I’ve not been to Greece since the Adtranz junk took over the standard gauge routes back in 1998, and having never done the Tripoli line at all, it was most welcome when “FART” (Flossy And Rubble Tours) came up with a trip to cover all available track on the now largely-closed Peloponnese metre gauge system. Did 3 days of the tour, which were top notch for thrash and scenery, the Tripoli line must class as one the worlds great railway journeys. Next had a day to do the Diakofto-Kalavryta rack line, followed by a day on the main line raking in a few winners. Finished off with a bonus Lefka works visit at Pireaus, courtesy of Herr Wormald.
